Finally, I have a spare minute to wrap up our trip to the Black Hills. We got up, ate breakfast, and headed home with the hopes of being to Grandma and Grandpa's by supper time.
We decided to drive the long way home and took a detour through the Badlands National Park. Unfortunately, Punky's tummy starting acting up again where there were no bathrooms, and no trees to hide behind.
Buddy was hoping to see a rattlesnake. No luck, but we did see a big horn sheep, prairie dogs and a rabbit.
We made it to Grandma's in time for supper, despite stopping to use the bathroom two or three times in the last hour.
The next day, we let the kids play outside in the morning. Buddy sat in the garden looking for dinosaur and woolly mammoth bones. He found clumps of dirt which he thought were woolly mammoth poop.
We stopped to visit Uncle Sean on our way home. We made it back by bedtime and thankfully we had two more days at home before we had to head back to work. As we turned the corner by our house, Buddy declared, "vacation was fun". Yes, Buddy, it was so much fun to watch you and your sister be excited and discover new things. Most of all, it was so nice to get to spend five days together as a family.
For days after our trip, Buddy would ask if we could go to the Black Hills again. We would hear things like "I like the Black Hills." or "Black Hills is fun." or "Can we go to Black Hills today?". I thought it was so sweet that he loved our trip so much. One morning I asked him what exactly he wanted to do in the Black Hills. He replied, "get more toys." Oh boy.
