First Haircut

In preparation for Auntie Amber's wedding this weekend, we decided to get Punky's hair cut for the first time.  Punky's hair has been a mess lately; it tangles so easily.  Daddy met us at the kid's salon after work today.  She only got an inch off the back and maybe a quarter of an inch off the sides.  According to the hairdresser, we would've had to cut off 2-3 inches to even it out.  We just couldn't do it!

I was able to save a lock of her hair to put in her baby book.  I don't know what I was expecting, but Punky looks pretty much the same and the whole process was very anti-climatic.  Hopefully the trim helps with the tangles!

State Fair

One of our favorite summer activities is the State Fair.  We always have so much fun at the fair, eventhough it means the end of summer is near.

Derek and I have our "usual" things we do at the fair.  We always eat the same things and visit the same places.  Before we had kids, we pretty much ate our favorite foods (pronto pup for me, pork chop-on-a-stick for Derek, deep-fried pickles for both of us, and cheese curds twice) and walked around.  We visited the barns and the fish pond.  That was about it.

This year we added a few new things to the mix for the kids.  First was the Little Farm Hands exhibit.  Punky and Buddy both had a great time scooping corn, driving a tractor, planting seeds, and feeding the "animals".

Buddy cried when we made him leave this station.  He had so much fun digging in the dirt.
Another new activity was the Giant Slide.  We've been telling Punky about the slide for a few weeks now.  She was excited to go with Daddy!

Punky at 30???

It was easy to tell how excited Punky was by the pitch of her voice.  Everytime she saw something new and exciting her voiced reach a higher octave.  "Cows!"  "Ice Cream!!"

She made out pretty good too.  While we were sitting down somewhere, the people next to us offered her a chocolate chip cookie.  And as we were leaving, another woman came up to her and gave her a stuffed doggy.  She is a pretty lucky girl!

We took the bus to the fair.  I think it was another highlight of the day.  Overall, the kids did really great!  We had a busy day and got home super late without any major meltdowns.

Not a baby anymore...

Buddy took his first "real" steps on Saturday.  He is practically running today.

Zoo

A few months ago, I created a (long) list of things I wanted to do this summer.  We've been so busy, I think we've only crossed two or three off.  It was a beautiful day and we had no plans, so we headed to the zoo.  We left for St. Paul after Buddy took his morning nap and we had lunch.  We let Punky skip her nap all together (which really isn't that big of a change since she rarely falls asleep at naptime).

Punky did good both in and out of the stroller.  She stayed by us and didn't run off.  And she didn't have any potty accidents.  Buddy had so much fun.  He enjoyed looking at all the people as well as the animals.  We had to break out the shoulder straps on the stroller because he shimmied himself out of the regular seat belt and stood up in the stroller while we were looking at the animals.

After the zoo, we all rode on the carousel.  I wish we would've taken video, the kids had so much fun!

Shopping with Punky & Buddy

Today we went shopping to get a present for Auntie's bachelorette party.  I loaded up the kids after naptime and we headed to Victoria's Secret.  Shopping with two kids is quite the experience!

Punky shouted "Boobies!" every tie she saw a bra.

Apparently I parked a little too close to one display because Buddy got ahold of a pair of silky leopard print panties and was chewing on them.  I picked something out as quickly as I could and we got out of there.

We stopped and looked at the fountain after our shopping trip.  I took Buddy out of the stroller so he could stretch and saw that he stole the pair of leopard print undies.  Oh boy!

Milwaukee

This weekend we headed to Wisconsin for my good friend Kristi's baby shower.  We left after work on Friday and didn't get to Milwaukee until 11pm.  The kids did sooo good!  They fell asleep soon after naptime and didn't wake up until we got to the hotel.  They were a little wired when we got into our room, but they soon settled down.

Punky and I went to the shower on Saturday while Derek and Buddy took a nap at the hotel and went out to lunch.  I forgot my camera...  but it was a BEAUTIFUL shower!  Punky had so much fun with the candy bar.  She would fill a bag full of candy and walk around the room passing it out to all the guests.  I think a waitress or two even got some!  She passed a few bags of candy out before I finally told her we should save some for Daddy.  Then she went up to some guests and asked for the candy back... oh boy!  In the end, she came home with her bag of candy, a coloring book, a door prize and three balloons.

After the shower, Daddy and Buddy picked us up and we went to downtown Milwaukee.  We walked along the Riverfront and enjoyed spending time together as a family.  We wanted to stop along the boardwalk for a drink and Punky wanted a "kids lemonade".  We saw the Hofbrau Haus and found a table outside.

That night we went to Kristi and Matt's for dinner.  The kids were wild and tired.  We didn't get to chat as much as I hoped, but it was a fun night!  We were back to the hotel by 9:30 and we were all asleep by 10.

The drive home went pretty good too.  A few notes:  Do not give a 2 year old a pen and paper or M & Ms in the backseat of the car.  And talk radio or a baseball game will put a kid to sleep in less than 5 minutes.

Frat Party Gone Bad

Last night when Derek went upstairs around 10, he noticed the kids' bedroom light was on.  We put them down at 8 and didn't hear anything from them, so we assumed they were asleep.  Derek opened the door and found both kids sound asleep.  The room was completely trashed and Punky was laying on the floor with no pants or diaper on....  Derek termed it a Frat Party Gone Bad....
